If by some chance you don’t know it, we love books!! We really love books! While many families would say, “Our books cases are full, we have enough books!” Our philosophy is there’s no such thing as too many books! So, I was thrilled when WorthyKids, an imprint of Hachette Book Group offered me one of their newest picture books, Nothing by Natalee Creech. I’ve always been a picture book fan! I bought picture books long before I had kids, and I continue to build my own collection.
I also have a few little people who are book-aholics as well! They could spend literally hours on my lap listening to stories. My voice and energy usually wear out long before their interest does. As soon as the book arrived, it was in the lap of one, then the other, then they pinned me down on the floor and had me read it right then and there.
The Good and the Beautiful of Nothing by Natalee Creech
The illustrations are gorgeous. The pages are full of color, movement, and life. I have to say that I enjoyed the book more and more as we read. The pictures seemed to get better and better. It was a real treat. I confess that because I love picture books so much, I am a bit of a umm, connoisseur, yes we will go with connoisseur. I’m not easily taken with modern picture books that are really just marketing ploys with no real content or beauty. (I’m looking at you, Dora!)
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our LORD.
Ah, that is such a comforting and inspiring verse. However, a really big concept for little hearts and minds. Nothing takes children on a fantastical adventure to demonstrate just how constant God’s Love is.
Time to Rhyme
My son, especially, enjoys books that rhyme. I’m not always a fan. Most rhyming story books have mediocre story lines and prose to keep up the rhyming. It is rare to find a book that not only rhymes but has an excellent story, as well. Nothing by Natalee Creech has a lovely meter and perfect rhyme. The prose is exquisite and the rhyme enhances the story, instead of detracting from it.
This books is perfect for ages 4-7, although my two year old has an endorsement of her own to share:
I have that book. I love that book!
